He basically uses the story of dealing with this great woman in his life, to pay homage toward a decade that has allowed him to appreciate the art of Music. I think the overall concept of this book is too dope. Music plays such a fundamental part in everything that we do in life, and it's interesting to hear someone tell their story about how it has affected them. VH1 Hip-Hop Honors 2008-October 6th, 2008 @ 10pm ET

I have always admired VH1 for the way they embrace the Hip-Hop Community, and its pioneers. With that said it is that time again for VH1 Hip-Hop Honors 2008. This years' Honorees are Cypress Hill, Naughty By Nature, Slick Rick, Too Short, and De La Soul. I see the potential in these performances to be DOPE,so I am kind of excited for this years' show. Not to mention that there's 2 WEST COAST HONOREES! Make sure ya'll tune in....I am toooo geeked to see who's gonna do "La Di Da Di", and "Jump Around", should be interesting.

Dare I Say....the "I'm Serious" T.I.P has resurrected! Track for track, this album is bananas. Iono if he can do a mil in a week, but I wouldn't be surprised. My fave tracks thus far, is "56 Bars", "I'm Illy", and the ladies anthem "Whatever You Like".
Robin Thicke-Something Else
Dude came with it on the first LP, and i project the same thing for this one. From what I've heard so far, it sounds quality. My pick for fave track so far, is "Sweetest Thing". Kinda reminds me of "Angel" off the last album.
Jennifer Hudson-Jennifer Hudson
Our favorite Dreamgirl has decided to go solo, with her self-titled debut album. She can definitely blow, but iono about the whole 14-track tip. But we will see! Her track with Fantasia is a problem though!
Dr. Dre- Detox
Now...I don't know how true to life this is, but rumor has it that The sequel to Dr. Dre's The Chronic 2001 is circulating somewhere on the world wide web. If ANYONE finds it, let me know ASAP! The West Coast is in dire need of a comeback!

Unsigned Hype: Overdoz.

Well, since the Potluck fam are firm believers in good music, I felt is was only right to put on for my city one time! This group of dudes are gonna be a problem! Mark my words! (Plus they're my friends!lol). Their name is Overdoz., Sleezy, Nutt, and Kent Jamz, straight out of the City of Angels...Los Angeles,California. "Stand Out Like 3 Stacks"

Just a few days ago, 3000 FINALLY released a Fall 2008 collection from his new clothing line, Benjamin Bixby. The line is inspired by Dre's infatuation with the 1930's football look,crossed with the new fad of the "fitted clothing." So far, there are 70 pieces that are within the Fall 2008 collection, some of which can be found at Barney's just in time for the change in season! Personally, it reminds me alot of Ralph Lauren's Rugby, with a dash of 3 stacks flair. I wonder if he made room for the ladies....Can't wait to see and hear more!

Sidenote: His timing couldn't be any better, considering the album is set for a fall/winter release...ALL THE CASH! LOL!

I'm sure we all had the same reaction toward the host of the VMA's this year, "Who the hell is this guy??" Welp, leave it to me to research =) As you already know, his name is Russell Brand, a famous TV, Radio, Music, and Movie personality from the UK. He is known for being extra liberal in his characters, speech, and dress. Although this is our first time hearing about him, he's been doing his thing for awhile now. He won GQ's Most Stylish Man of the Year honor from 2006-2008, he was in the recent movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall with Jonah Hill (ya boy from Superbad), and of course, this month's 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. Now that he's made his big break in the states I'm sure we will be seeing more of dude in the near future....

I personally like him! he speaks the first thing that comes to his mind....and he's British......British people are cool, LOL!

Andre 3000 preps new solo album...

In fact, among other projects, Benjamin says a new solo album is in the works. “It should be dropping by the end of this year or early next year. I’ve pretty much been working with myself,” he explains. “I’ve never really been that big on collaboration.” Benjamin wouldn’t reveal any other details, but he said he already had a goal and a direction for the album. “I have a concept, and all the soundscapes are already in my head, so I just have to figure out how to get there.”

Travis Barker and DJ AM in Critical Condition after Plane Crash...

"Travis Barker, a former Drummer for Blink 182, and DJ AM are in critical condition after the plane they were flying on went off the runway and crashed. Four other people aboard the plane were killed.

According to TMZ, Barker is severely burned from the waist down but is expected to survive. DJ AM, whose real name is Adam Michael Goldstein is being treated for burns on his face. The two were transported to a burn center in Augusta, Georgia where they are listed in critical condition.

Barker and Goldstien apparently saved their own lives by jumping out the door of the burning plane. Barker's assistant Chris Baker, 29 was one of the 4 people who died in the crash. He was newly married with a newborn baby.

The other three who did not survive were pilot Sarah Lemmon, co-pilot James Bland and Charles Still.

Barker is famous for his drum work in the Band Blink 182 and his reality show "Meet the Barkers" with on again off again ex-wife and former Miss USA Shanna Moakler.

Goldstien was once engaged to reality star and socialite Nicole Richie.

Barker performed Friday night at an event with Perry Farrell, Gavin DeGraw, and DJ AM.


The FAA said the plane carrying six people was departing when an air traffic controller reported seeing sparks. The plane went off the runway and crashed on a nearby road."

I'm so happy that the 4th quarter is finally getting interesting! There are a TON of new released coming out within the next few months, but i am going to post every Tuesday so the Potluck Fam knows what to go cop!

To kick it off, the most highly anticipated R&B artist of the 4th quarter...JAZMINE SULLIVAN!!! The date was originally scheduled for September 23rd, but we've been blessed early! The album is entitled "Fearless". From what I've heard so far, it's craaaazy! So I'd say go make that purchase.

Second in line for release today was the R&B mastermind himself,Ne-Yo. His third album is entitled, "Year of the Gentleman." I have not had a chance to listen yet, but if it's anything like the first two albums, it'll be copped as soon as I log outta this blog. TRUST!

Seriously people of all ages and races came out for the festival this past Saturday in Akron. The weather was gorgeous and the event went down without an incident. Congratulations and good job to the organizers of this event. I'm definitely looking forward to next year's!

Varsity Squad Exclusive: Chip Tha Ripper Interview with Double O

As I walked into the Grog Shop 'band room' with Double O he introduces me to Naledge and then points to a young man in the corner and says, "This is Chip Tha Ripper. You need to know him. He's the next big thing. He's from Cleveland. Talk to him."


The catch is Chip is already big. Boasting some of the hottest club singles in the city and a dope mixtape with world-renowned DJ Mickboogie, its just a matter of moments before the whole country is fresh fly and fitted.


Here's what happened when Double O did the interviewing:


Double O: How would you describe your writing style?
Chip: Man its a combination of Big L and Redman. Their styles influenced me the way they amuse people with word play. I want to do that just awe people with my use of words.


Double O: How do you feel you are representing Cleveland in the rap game?
Chip: I talk to the world instead of just where I am.




Double O: How does it feel being embraced by the hipster crowd?
Chip: We aimed for the hood but it was authentic so everyone felt it. It feels good.


Double O: Do you feel you need to move away from Cleveland to reach ultimate success?
Chip: Work is what you make it. You can be anywhere and make it happen. I definitely have to travel and get around the world, but leave Cleveland, no, I don't think I have to do that.



Double O: Describe yourself in one word.
Chip: Unpredictable
